The European Disability Forum (EDF) is the European umbrella organisation representing the interests of 65 million persons with disabilities in Europe. The mission of EDF is to ensure disabled people full access to fundamental and human rights through their active involvement in policy development and implementation in Europe. EDF is a member of the Social Platform and works closely with the European institutions, the Council of Europe and the United Nations.
We are looking for an intern to support the communication team; a dynamic team player to help create editorial and new media content. The successful candidate should have a background in writing and communication and will be familiar with the Web 2.0 world or already have some online skills. She or He should be native English or be able to speak and write fluently in English.
Key responsibilities:
Communication + editorial
- Support EDF external and internal communication strategy
- Write and proofread webnews, press releases and position papers
- Contribute to the creation, edition and management of accessible information and communication tools (website, newsletter, magazine, specific publications, information packs, exhibition kit and other media)
- Upload all web 2.0 tools as Facebook, Twitter and seek new way to promote EDF activities
- Community management (read and moderate posts and comments)
- Ensure high visibility of EDF at conferences and events
- Manage video and multimedia tools
- Daily press monitoring and research
- Support for updating of European Media Database
Events
- Support the team for EDF events in Brussels and abroad
- Follow-up projects, drafting minutes
Profile:
- Journalism/communication and relevant background
- The applicant must currently be undertaking a college or university education
- Applicants with disability are encouraged to apply
- Basic level of EU policy knowledge and understanding (please note that this is not a position for policy experts)
- Native English speaker or fluent written and oral English, knowledge of French, any other EU language, in particular Spanish, would be an asset
- Knowledge of Web 2.0, including the blogosphere
- Understanding of online video and multimedia
- Particular sense for graphic design would be an asset
- Good references
Location: Brussels
Duration of Traineeship: 6 months starting mid January 2010

Interviews will be held between 14-18/12/2009
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted
Shortlisted candidates will be requested to take a 20 minutes writing test the day of the interview to check technical level of English writing for the press.
This internship will be for an initial period of six months.
Regular coaching and evaluation will determine whether an extension for a further period is offered
The applicants must currently be undertaking a college or university education.
Favourable consideration will be given to applicants who are eligible for funding via Erasmus or other programmes.
