The International Communications team is part of the International Secretariat of ActionAid International. This multi-locational team aims to provide a central resource of skills, expertise and services necessary to create quality external communications outcomes which contribute to creating a unique and cohesive identity for ActionAid internationally so we are able to maximise our influence and income for poor people.
International Communications Advisor
This role undertakes the following activities:
1. Provide consultancy and capability development services and technical advice to countries and international teams to raise the quality of our national and international communications outputs and thereby raise profile, influence and funds
2. To support the creation and sharing of quality, relevant multimedia communications ‘Content’ to help raise ActionAid’s profile and influence through the delivery of effective communication nationally and internationally
3. Undertake communications work directly in response to big opportunities, emergency situations or reputational risks
4. Manage Communications strategies & plans for achievement of priority International Campaign, Policy, and Thematic objectives
Essential Core skills:
1. Strategic thinking and planning skills and experience of producing, coordinating and implementing multi-media strategies for specific events/projects/issues and communication strategies
2. Capacity building experience including training, facilitating, coaching and mentoring
3. Experience of organisational development, the structuring teams, recruitment and staff development
4. Experience of working in an international environment, exceptional interpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships quickly with people from many different cultural backgrounds and preferably experience of working in communications in other countries
Essential specialist skills:
Each advisor must have a high level technical capability across more than one of the core communications disciplines
- Media Relations
- Brand and reputation management
- Online – website development and digital communications
- Campaigning and mobilising citizen engagement
- Publications development
- Video and Photography
