Purpose of the job:
To lead, develop and implement communication strategies and creative concepts for campaign projects as well as fundraising activities, in line with the identity guidelines and in cooperation with the communications team, in order to raise organizational and campaign awareness in the public and to ensure the delivery of agreed campaign strategies in alignment with the Organisational Strategy.

Main responsibilities:
1. Strategic direction and communication design
Maintain an overview of key external developments and based on this formulate and deliver effective communication strategies and activities, in cooperation with the Communications Director and Programme Unit Head ensuring the provision of ongoing advice to senior management at GPI and in NROs on the formulation and execution of GP’s strategic direction and communication design.
2. Global Communication Strategy
Lead and coordinate the formulation, development, agreement and implementation of global innovative, creative, pro-active and reactive campaign communication strategies and objectives for communication issues, in the context of the Greenpeace mission and identity guidelines with the Communication Director, in order to clearly define the objectives of global campaigns communication.
Implement such strategies and coordinate rollout of material across NROs and external international partners in order to provide a high level of media (traditional and non-traditional) exposure internationally ensuring success of our campaigns and improvement of our organizational profile.
Provide senior strategic communication input into design of any communication program, using core communication principles, audience centered-thinking and understanding of delivery across multiple platforms.
3. Staff Management
Functionally leads and manages members of the Greenpeace International communications staff working on communication programs, in line with HR and GPI guidelines, in order to be equipped for current and future challenges and contribute to the realization of the unit’s objectives.
4. Budget
Develop, monitor and authorize expenditure of communication strategies within her/his responsibility, according to agreed objectives and the priorities to ensure cost effectiveness and strategic expenditure of the allocated budget. Negotiate appropriate level of budget necessary for a campaign/project with relevant party.
5. National/Regional Office (NRO) Liaison
Enable the communication unit to build relationships with and support NROs through consistent communication, diplomacy and NRO visits, in cooperation with the unit team and in the context of organisational development plans, to ensure the global communication strategy is supported by NROs and implemented accordingly in different regions of the world.
6. External Network
Maintain overview and coordinate the development of external international networks with key allies, political fora, industry, NGOs, public and media in order to enable maximum influence in external world to support achievement of communication strategies and objectives.
7. Alignment on policy
Ensure all communication material produced by GPI and NROs is in adherence to editorial policies and in line with the identity guidelines across all platform, concerning the own communication projects, in order to ensure consistency in communication content and presentation style.
8. Funding Proposals
Advise and assist the Communication Director and Fundraising Unit on the development of funding proposals for major donors and foundations, and subsequent campaign reporting and representation, liaising with major donors, Foundations and other supporters of Greenpeace work as required in order to ensure funding proposals are factually correct and in line with the agreed global campaign strategy.


Skills required / qualifications

Required:
- Bachelors/Masters degree or equivalent
- At least 5 years professional experience in Communications
- Proven success record in campaign based media outreach, marketing and branding, knowledge of marketing and advertising techniques
- Experience in working in international environment and coordination of rollouts across global markets
- Staff management experience – especially with cross-cultural and global (i.e. long distance) teams
- Management experience especially budget management
- Ability to conceive and implement ideas single-handedly as well as ensure that those around deliver
- Articulate, creative, passionate, with excellent written and spoken English
